CONVENER of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, has called for the immediate suspension of the Inspector- General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris. According to him, the IGP’s suspension would make room for a free and fair investigation into the allegation of N120 billion security scam raised against him by the Senator representing Bauchi Central, Hamman Isah Misau. Senator Misau had accused the IGP of collecting about N120 billion as bill for special security services to corporate bodies such as oil firms and highly placed individuals through a process which he called “series of fraudulent practices in the running of the Nigerian Police.” Adeyanju, while addressing journalists in Abuja, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to use his good office to order the arrest and probe of the IGP as a demonstration of his resolve to fight graft in the public sector. Association of Resident Doctors, University of Benin, have announced that they will embark on an indefinite strike starting from September 4, 2017. The proposed strike action comes after a breakdown of negotiations with the federal government over the demand that resident doctors be included in the Integrated Personnel Information System. Resident doctors in the state believe the inclusion would help them get their emoluments directly from the federal government and curb corruption in the healthcare system.  They also said that the development would make more funds available to run the nation’s healthcare and reduce the brain-drain that is currently plaguing the sector.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, was recently criticized by Nigerians after they fixed minimum cut off marks for admissions into universities in Nigeria at 120, polytechnics and colleges of education at 100, while that of innovative enterprising institutes at 110. An Indian man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his mother to death in a fight over money, before cutting out her heart and intestines and eating it 'with pepper and chutney'. The suspect, Sunil Kuchakurni, 35, committed the sickening attack when he visited his mother Yelava, 65, at her home in Mahawala Vasant, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra to ask her for alcohol money. When she refused to give the money, her drunk, and unemployed son reportedly took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her to death. Local police say he then cut out her intestines and her heart and ate it after seasoning it with chutney. Neighbours reportedly spotted him walking out of the house with blood dripping from his hands at approximately an hour after they heard screams and informed the police. Sunil was arrested under section 302 (Punishment for Murder) of the Indian Penal Code later that day.              ...
